Summer Intern Series: Welcome back Leila Salim!

July 26, 2021
Hello from one of Brewster Branding's summer interns, Leila Salim! I am an upcoming senior at Newton South High School who has found an interest in marketing through the new experiences I have gained at Brewster Branding. I was a summer intern last year in 2020 through The Education Cooperative. and really enjoyed my work. So, I had the opportunity to return for the summer of 2021!

In 2020, I learned to navigate through new websites to schedule different social media posts for clients' businesses and upcoming events. Towards the end, I learned how to help set up and organize websites for businesses we were working with to help build their brand. I then had the pleasure of attending Brewster Branding's Thank You Event and Awards Night in November where I won the Rising Star 2020 Award among other interns. I had never done an internship before or even done work like I had done over the summer, so to have won an award for it was amazing.

I have learned and am learning so many new skills being in a workplace like I am in at Brewster Branding including how to set up websites that appeal to an audience and the importance of connections and communication (especially when COVID continues to present obstacles). Since I had never had a job in a company or organization like Brewster Branding and there were no assignment requirements like at school, I had to learn how to go about tasks that I was not used to doing since I was so used to having outlines or checklists of some sort. It was and is important to also reach out to clarify a task before performing it if I was too unsure to make sure that I was on the right track. My internship was definitely a new form of independence that I had not really had too much of in the past and has really helped me in other situations such as in school.

This year, I have the opportunity to work in person (unlike last year) with three other summer interns which has been great because the collaborative atmosphere has been very helpful and a way to learn new marketing skills. So far, we have done product shots to be used to showcase different products in the past as well as ones being worked on at the moment. I have also been scheduling a few social media posts.
